Resolution No. 2009-08-22

Location and Funding Control for Residential School Healing Programs

WHEREAS many members of the Mushkegowuk Nation are the victims and survivors of Indian Residential Schools; and

WHEREAS government funding for the healing of Mushkegowuk victims and survivors of Indian Residential Schools cannot be used for healing programs in Quebec or other provinces;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs and delegates in Assembly reinforce the importance and value of healing for the victims and survivors of Indian Residential Schools;

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs and delegates in Assembly strongly affirm that no limits should be placed on where Mushkegowuk victims and survivors of Indian Residential Schools can attend their critically important healing programs; and

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs and delegates in Assembly affirm that control of the

healing funding related to these Indian Residential Schools be allocated to the Weeneebayko Ahtuskaywin Regional Health Authority.
