Resolution No. 2009-08-25

WHEREAS the people of Attawapiskat continue to experience Third World conditions in their community due to inferior and failing infrastructure, housing and education, including diesel fuel contamination of the school grounds, and dilapidated elementary portable buildings which are mold infested; and

WHEREAS the people and leaders of Attawapiskat have protested their living conditions in Timmins, Cochrane, Chapleau, Toronto and Ottawa;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk First Nations strongly support the Attawapiskat First Nation in its protest against the Third World conditions in their community; and

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that since the Minister of Indian Affairs has refused to visit Attawapiskat, the Mushkegowuk Assembly supports the call of the Attawapiskat First Nation for the Prime Minister to visit Attawapiskat, with a committee of Members of Parliament, and to report their findings to Parliament and to mainstream society.
