Resolution No. 2010-09-15

Unity Concerning Resource Development

WHEREAS the Omushkego lnninu since time immemorial have lived in the Mushkegowuk Region, celebrating a strong and united heritage based on a harmonious relationship with the land, and

WHEREAS the 2007 Mushkegowuk Assembly declared and affirmed "the unity of the Omushkego lnninu including the protection, maintenance and enhancement of the characteristics which identify us as a unique and proud Omushkego Nation as well as the reinstatement of our inherent right to practice traditional governance within our Omushkego homelands."

WHEREAS there is increasing interest in the Mushkegowuk Territories by resource developers, and

WHEREAS when the Omushkego lnninu stand together we are collectively stronger and better able to defend our rights or negotiate in the best interests of all our citizens;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamohitowin of the Omushkegowuk endorses the principle of sharing between Mushkegowuk First Nations the revenue and benefits from resource developments within the Mushkegowuk Territories, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Mamohitowin of the Omushkegowuk endorses the principle of the Omushkego collectively defending our rights or negotiating together on all resource development projects, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Mamohitowin of the Omushkegowuk directs the Office of the Grand Chief to explore possible models of resource development revenue sharing between First Nations from other jurisdictions, consult with Mushkegowuk First Nations on revenue sharing options and report to the Mamohitowin of Omushkegowuk in 2011, and

FlNALLY BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamohitowin of the Omushkegowuk directs the Office of the Grand Chief to begin identifying and building the capacity necessary to assist or carry out collective and united negotiations regarding resource development projects.
