Supporit for Alex Litvinov and MERC

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre (MERC) is a First Nations organization which provides valuable research services to the First Nations of Northern Ontario, and

WHEREAS Dr. Alex Litvinov, an employee of MERC has been charged by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for research activities he undertook on behalf of MERC and Mattagami First Nation, as part of that First Nation's exercise of their Aboriginal and Treaty rights, and

WHEREAS First Nations need to conduct research as part of our duties as the rightful and historic Stewards of the land, water and wildlife and to responsibly exercise our Aboriginal and Treaty Rights;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamohitowin of the Omushk,egowuk fully supports the work undertak:en by the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre and Dr. Litviniov, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Mamohitowin of the Omushkegowuk sees theise charges as a direct attack on First Nation self government and Treaty rights and hereby demand that

the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources drop all charges, and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Office of the Grand Chief coordinate support on this issue, including assistance with legal defenc13, with Dr. Litvinov, the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre and Mattagami First Nation.
