Priority for Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre in First Nation Agreements

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre (MERC) was established by the Mushkegowuk First Nations as a not­for-profit corporation servicing First Nations, government and industry in the environmental field; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre is developing Mushkegowuk capacity in the prov1s1on of environmental research, monitoring and assessment services to First Nations, government and industry in Mushkegowuk Territory and beyond; and

WHEREAS the Board of the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre needs new sources of revenue to sustain the corporation; and

WHEREAS receiving more First Nation, industry and government project business would help the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre meet this need; and

WHEREAS the Board of the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre has identified the benefit and the

importance of MERC receiving increased consideration and priority in agreements between Mushkegowuk First Nations and governments or industry which involve environmental research and services; and

WHEREAS the delegates at the 26th Annual MAMOWIH/TOWIN of the OMUSHKEGOWUK desire the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre to succeed and to be financially sustainable;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the 26th Annual MAMOWIHITOWIN of the OMUSHKEGOWUK strongly support the principle of Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre obtaining first and full consideration whenever Mushkegowuk First Nations are involved in agreements with government or industry that involve environmental research and service opportunities.
