Support for Ring of Fire Action

WHEREAS exploration and the potential development of mines in the Ring of Fire area will have many possible impacts on the environment, economy and communities of the Mushkegowuk First Nations; and

WHEREAS the Omushkegowuk stand united in a collective regional process in addressing concerns over the Ring of Fire; and

WHEREAS a Strategy and Action Plan on the Ring of Fire and a template for agreements with companies in the Ring of Fire have been reviewed by the delegates of this Mamowihitowin;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk expresses support for the Grand Chief as the continuing spokesperson for the Mushkegowuk First Nations on issues relating to the Ring of Fire; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Office of the Grand Chief is directed to seek funding to protect Mushkegowuk First Nations concerns and to build capacity for Mushkegowuk engagement in regards to the Ring of Fire, including developing funding relationship agreements with individual companies and government agencies.
