Resolution No. 2012-09-10
WHEREAS our rich culture and tradition directs up to honour and celebrate the annual gatherings of our Grandmothers and Grandfathers through CreeFest; and
WHEREAS as our ancestors were guided, CreeFest continues to be strengthened and guided by the following priciples:
Preserve and practice our culture and spiritual beliefs
Uphold and promote our customary practices
Provide cultural and spiritual forums for the Youth
Celebrate life and unity
WHEREAS all Mushkegowuk First Nations, including the community of Moosonee have respectfully and successfully hosted CreeFest, making this a complete circle of honour and celebration for CreeFest; and
WHEREAS this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk acknowledges and commends the members of the planning teams, financial contributors, volunteers, all participants and the
Great Spirit for providing this celebration of our culture and life; and
WHEREAS this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk gracefully acknowledges, appreciates and honours citizens of Peawanuck, especially the elders, who have participated In CreeFest since its inception; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED in respect, honour and gratitude of Peawanuck's participation, this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk offers Weenusk First Nation to host the 2013 CreeFest, and if the Weenusk First Nation declines the offer, the Council of Chiefs will select the host Nation for 2013 CreeFest.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk directs Mushkegowuk Council, in collaboration with the host community, to plan and deliver another successful showcase of CreeFest 2013.
