Resolution No. 2012-09-20
Omushkegowuk Aski Planning
WHEREAS, the Omushkegowuk have the inherent right of self-determination and as such are re-asserting this right to govern and manage the natural resources located within the Omushkegowuk homelands; and
WHEREAS Mamowihitowin Resolution 2011-09-12 established a Regional Planning Team representing the Mushkegowuk First Nations; and
WHEREAS the Regional Planning Team has reported to the Mamowihitowin on their progress; and
WHEREAS the Regional Planning Team is continuing to develop a Terms of Reference for Planning;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk fully supports the work of the Regional Planning Team in developing a land use plan for the entire Omushkegowuk homelands
BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin urges the Mushkegowuk First Nations to discuss and ratify the Terms of Reference for Planning to set a clear path forward for
developing a Regional Collective plan for the Omushkegowuk Aski;
BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED that the Omushkegowuk will work with willing partners who respect the aspirations and leadership of the Mushkegowuk First Nations in planning, including the Province of Ontario;
FINALLY BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin directs the Office of the Grand Chief to continue to support the Omushkegowuk Aski Planning by seeking the funding and other support necessary to continue this process.
