Mushkegowuk -Ontario Treaty Relationship Roundtable Memorandum of Understanding

WHEREAS the delegates of the Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk reaffirm their seriousness and willingness to engage with Ontario in meaningful government-to-government discussion on the Treaty, and

WHEREAS the Chiefs and Delegates of 2014 Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk mandated the Office of the Grand Chief to seek a government­to-government agreement that formalizes the Treaty Roundtable with Ontario; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk and Province of Ontario have conducted several Treaty Roundtable meetings and continue to make some progress on projects that are considered Treaty Implementation in nature, including the development of a draft Memorandum of Understanding; and

WHEREAS this Memorandum of Understanding recognizes the rights of the member First Nations and permits the First Nations to pursue their own priorities and enter into agreements with the Government of Ontario or any other parties they want to; and

WHEREAS that the Chiefs and Delegates of the 29th Annual Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk reviewed and discussed the proposed draft Mushkegowuk Ontario Memorandum of Understanding for the Treaty Relationship Roundtable.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk approves in principle the draft Memorandum of Understanding for the Treaty Relationship Roundtable and submit it to the Mushkegowuk First Nation Chiefs for signing.
