Resolution No. 2018-11-06

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to Provide Funding for Waste Management Strategy

WHEREAS, the Attawapiskat First Nation, the Fort Albany First Nation, the Kashechewan First Nation, and the Moose Cree First Nation and the Mushkegowuk Council have been in communication with ISC regarding coordination and funding for solid waste management projects; and

WHEREAS, the present solid waste management systems in these communities do not meet the needs of the Attawapiskat First Nation, the Fort Albany First Nation, the Kashechewan First Nation, and the Moose Cree First Nation, and therefore a local and regional mitigation strategy is required to address the identified issues; and

WHEREAS, the Attawapiskat First Nation, the Fort Albany First Nation, the Kashechewan First Nation, and the Moose Cree First Nation and ISC have established a project team, with the intention of including Chapleau Cree First Nation, Missanabie Cree First Nation and Taykwa Tagamou Nation, to develop and execute a strategy and project to address these issues, with the Mushkegowuk Council; and

WHEREAS a draft Terms of Reference and draft Statement of Work has been prepared for such a Mushkegowuk Waste Management Strategy; and

WHEREAS, the proposed Mushkegowuk Waste Management Strategy is not intended to conflict with or interfere with any plans or projects already existing or in progress in any Mushkegowuk community;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Chiefs in Assembly of the Mushkegowuk Council request ISC to provide funding to support the implementation of the Mushkegowuk Waste Management Strategy; as described in the Terms of Reference and Minor Capital Application, dated October 1, 2018 including the immediate needs identified therein.
