Regional Housing Support Strategy Immediate Needs 2019

WHEREAS Mushkegowuk Council was directed to create regional housing strategic plan to address immediate needs in the region; and the Regional Housing Strategy was approved at an Annual General Assembly meeting in 2014 at Fort Albany;

WHEREAS The project team has completed 3 of 4 phases of the regional housing strategy and will complete the last phase (4) by March 2020. The last step to complete phase 4 is to prepare a business plan to lobby investments from Indigenous Service Canada to build 200 homes and renovate 50 homes in the region;

WHEREAS A submission for Part A: Multi­year agreement for funding 200 homes and 50 renovations, and Part B; Creation of a regional housing services board has been sent to Indigenous Services Canada for acceptance.

WHEREAS The completion of a Regional Housing business Plan is required ·to access funding needed to initiate Community housing projects

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk direct the Mushkegowuk Council to work with our communities to complete a Regional Housing business plan. It is understood the proposal is ready to be submitted to Indigenous Services Canada for funding which is the last step to finish the regional housing project.
