Support for Fort Albany First Nation's State of Emergency

WHEREAS The supply, demand and use of illegal drugs (including abuse of prescription drugs) and alcohol continues to be the leading cause of criminal activity, premature deaths, destruction of families and cause life-long hardship for the elders, innocent children and families in our community of Fort Albany; and

WHEREAS In response to the health crisis caused illegal drugs and alcohol in the community of Fort Albany, the Chief and Council declared a State of Emergency on May 26, 2019 to activate a response for and support for resources from the federal and provincial governments; and

WHEREAS After six (6) months of diligent efforts by the leadership and community members to respond to the health crisis, the crisis level has gotten worse and the community remains in a very serious state of emergency; and

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk fully supports the Fort Albany First Nation and calls on the federal and provincial governments to help save lives and destruction of a community by providing emergency funding for the Fort Albany First Nation's priority calls to action for this state of emergency.
